The First UK printing published by Macmillan (London) in 1936.The BOOK is in near FINE condition.A little pushing at the spine tips with very early splaying of the boards.Covers are clean with black titling.Mild offsetting to the prelims and end papers. Mild toning and spotting to the text block.Previous owner's inscription to the verso of the front blank end paper. Green top stain still present but faded.The WRAPPER is the correct First Issue state and is price-clipped.It is in VERY GOOD++ or better condition.Minor edge wear with loss at the upper front spine and front upper flap fold.Closed tear to upper rear spine fold.Amazingly, there is No fading of colouring to the spine.The wrapper has spotting to the verso which comes through very mildly in places to the front.The 'Daily Mail Book Of The Month' Promotional Band is complete and bears the correct price of 10s 6d net.The band is lightly foxed and has had a small amount of professional restoration to the folds in places.The period wrapper design looks very striking in the removable Brodart archival protector.A monumental classic considered by many to be not only the greatest love story ever written,but also the greatest Civil War saga.Margaret Mitchell's 'Gone with the Wind' is the bestselling novel of all time and her unforgettable characters have become American icons. Suppressed in England on March 4, 1929. As a result, there is likely only a handful of copies remaining. In fact, the copy in the British Library is one of the 'French' copies published subsequent to the English copies. Sleeveless Errand was ruled obscene at the Bow Street Police Court. All but a few representative copies were ordered to be destroyed. The police had been tipped off about the content by the editor of the Morning Post after they had received a review copy.
