Some minor spots of red offsetting to lower edge of upper wrapper, otherwise very near fine. An unspecified but substantially preproduction draft of Hecht's adaptation of Hemingway's novel of the Great War. It was the novel's second screen adaptation to reach production. This draft precedes John Huston's coming on board as director (and of course his departure, at which point Charles Vidor took over). This draft is nearly 20 leaves longer than several subsequent drafts. Rock Hudson and Jennifer Jones starred.

Advance reading copy, bound up from printed sheets, of the first edition of the author's third novel, source for the multiple award- winning and nominated 1971 film adaptation, based on McMurtry's collaborative screenplay with director Bogdanovich. Preceded by a minute handful of sets of actual uncorrected page proofs, a wholly different animal than this state, although this format is sometimes confused with the other.

First edition, first printing. Signed by McMurtry on the title page. Book is fine with a bit of minor mottling to the top brown colored paper edges. Dust jacket is bright and has very little evidence of wear or age.

Longmans, Green, and Co. London and Bombay. 1902. FIRST EDITION. Colonial Issue. 8vo. (7.4 x 5.3 inches). Illustrated with sixteen mono plates by Sidney Paget. Tisue guard to the frontispiece. A few of the plates are bound in different places than listed on the contents page but all are present. 4 pages of publishers adverts for the colonial library at the rear of the book. The text and illustrations are fine, clean and bright throughout and look unread. Publishers decorative green cloth which has dark blue illustration to the front board and spine. Gilt lettering to the spine. Decorative light blue and white floral endpapers with ship and swan designs. There are a couple of small closed tears to the spine and the cloth is a bit rubbed and bumped and has a few small marks but is generally in very good condition with the gilt on the spine still quite bright. THE LEARNING TREE was the first film directed by an African American and financed by a major Hollywood studio, Warner Brothers. Writer-director Parks adapted his autobiographical novel about a black teenager growing up in Kansas in the 1920s. The film was one of the first twenty-five movies selected in 1989 for preservation as part of the United States National Film Registry.
