About This Item

London: Kestrel Books, 1981. A first edition, first printing published by Kestrel Books in 1981. A near fine book without inscriptions with a previous owner's unfilled bookplate in like unclipped wrapper with a minor creasing to the bottom of the front panel. In custom-made slipcase, the design of which mirrors the dust wrapper illustration. "Goodnight Mister Tom" by Michelle Magorian has had a profound cultural impact since its publication in 1981. The novel, set during World War II, explores themes of friendship, resilience, and the transformative power of love. Widely taught in schools, it has become a beloved classic for young readers, fostering empathy and understanding. The story's poignant portrayal of evacuees and the healing bond between the main characters has resonated with audiences worldwide. Its stage adaptation and television film further expanded its influence, making "Goodnight Mister Tom" a timeless work that continues to shape the literary and educational landscape, promoting themes of compassion and humanity.
