GOUGHIE: THE LIFE OF GENERAL SIR HUBERT GOUGH by Anthony Farrar-Hockley - 1975

This is a first edition of Goughie: The Life of General Sir Hubert Gough, written in 1975 by the British military historian Sir Anthony Farrar-Hockley (1924-2006).

Gough was one of the British Army's most famous generals. A favourite of the Commander-in-Chief, Field Marshal Sir Douglas Haig, he experienced a meteoric rise through the ranks during the war and commanded the British Fifth Army from 1916 to 1918. He came from a long line of swashbuckling military heroes and was the youngest general to serve in the British army during The Great War. He also saw action in South Africa and India, living to experience another world war as a leading figure in the Home Guard.

First editions of this book are really expensive--$100 or more, but something was spilled on the cover of this one, just on the outside edge. I haven't tried to clean it--you may be able to, with Absorene, or you can take it to a professional. And the dust jacket (unclipped) is yellowed. The rest of the book is perfect.
