Folio, (ii), 157, (1) pp. Chromolithographed second title and 111 fine chromolithographed plates, each with a tissue guard, showing numerous designs, a fine bright copy in the original gilt decorated maroon cloth, spine ends bumped, small hole to lower edge of upper cover, a.e.g., recently recased, a very good bright copy. First published in 1856, and then the first work of its kind, Jones brought together patterns from all over the world to form one of the major works in Victorian Design. This copy has been recased, with neat matching paper reinforcements at the (inner) hinges; some plates extend slightly more than others at the fore-edge. The plates are all clean and bright. This book is in good condition. There is some wear on the front, back, spine, edges and corner of the cover. There is some dog-earring on the right corner pages of the book. The pages are white, crisp and clear of any markings. "This is a history of the visual arts produced in the geographical area that now constitutes the United States.
