Text in French. Cohen was a professor at the Sorbonne when the Vichy Government forced him to resign in 1940. He then emigrated to the United States. In 1942 he helped found the New York Ecole Libre Des Hautes Etudes with two of his country men, Henri Focillon and Jacques Maritain.
