London: George Routledge and Sons, 1883-1889 . First edition. Cloth. Very Good Indeed. 11" by 15". Randolph Caldecott. A vibrant collection of four first edition picture books by the British illustrator Randolph Caldecott. The first editions of four charmingly illustrated picture books from popular Victorian era artist and illustrator Randolph Caldecott. The first work present is 'Randolph Caldecott's Graphic Pictures', published in 1883. With colour illustrations to every page, including a frontispiece and vignette title page. Each leaf is printed to one side only, largely by Edmund Evans using his superior six-colour process, but with pages 81-96 printed in fewer colours by Grant & Co. The second work is 'More "Graphic" Pictures', published in 1887, and illustrated in colour to each page, with a colour frontispiece and vignette title page also. The third volume is 'Last "Graphic" Pictures', published in 1888, and illustrated in colour to the recto of each leaf, with a colour frontispiece and vignette title page. The final volume is 'Gleanings from the "Graphic"', published in 1889, with colour and monochrome illustrations throughout.Bookplate of Alexander McGrigor to front pastedown of the first volume. A noted bibliophile, after his death he donated what is now known as the McGrigor Collection to Glasgow University Library. In the publisher's original cloth backed pictorial paper covered boards. Bumping to back strip head and tails, and to perimeters of boards. Light spotting to front boards of three volumes. Bookplate to one front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Light spotting throughout the earliest two volumes, with pages of the latter two volumes exceptionally clean and bright. Very Good Indeed
