Hardcover, full leather binding, banded to spine, blind stamped on front and rear. Leather is in its original state and untreated, edges and corner show bumps and wear, leather is cracked at hinge point for rear board. Marbled end pages and exterior page edges though exterior edges are faded. Overall binding is good though there is some minor pulling at spots. Pages are toned due to age and minor foxing is present. No signatures or bookplates found, no library markings. This title was originally published in 1858 and was then expanded to a four volume set with volumes published separately The 4 volume set was later expanded to 5 volumes entitled "the Conflict of the Ages Series" with the last volume given the title of this book: "The Great Controversy Between Christ and Satan During the Christian Dispensation" which was first published in 1888. That is why this book is marked as a first edition as it was registered with the Library of Congress in 1888. There were later printings which were marked on the title page stating it was revised, this copy does NOT have any revision statements on the title or copyright pages. First edition thus. The worst issue with this book is the hinge condition on the rear board is the exterior leather portion is completely cracked through and is being held on by the interior hinge material and a small section at the bottom of the exterior hinge. Interior binding can be a bit fragile in spots.
