Santa Barbara: Cadmus Editions, 1979. First edition. Hardcover. Good plus. First edition. Hardcover. Octavo. 87pp. plus list of National Endowment recipients from Naropa Institute, titled "The Big Pay-Off." Special copy, one of one hundred hardbound copies, this copy states, "Kenneth Rexroth's Copy." It is also SIGNED BY CLARK on the colophon with an additional INSCRIPTION TO REXROTH FROM CLARK on the title-page. Furthermore it is INSCRIBED to Rexroth on the colophon page by publisher Jeffery Miller. Original broadside apology by Kenneth Rexroth laid in as issued. This was a renunciation of Chogyam Trungpa, spiritual head of the Naropa Institute. It describes the lead-up and fallout of an incident in which the poet W. S. Merwin and his girlfriend were attacked and forcibly stripped during a religious ceremony. Includes Appendix "with a copious collection of germane documents assembled by the author." Cover is browned a bit and lightly soiled. Spine label is faded. The inserted broadside has some orange staining (moisture) to the bottom edge. Boards a little bowed, a few pages wavy on one corner. Lacking acetate dust jacket.
