Thin card covers with Yapp-like overhang on 3 sides; front cover with colored pictorial scene of seated woman warrior with quill pen, ink stand and ledger type volume; unprinted spine and rear cover; colored chestnut leaves and flower end papers; frontispiece portrait of Emerson; laid paper; floral head-piece on each page. Lightly scuffed covers and spine; has few small splits in overhanging edges; 1/4 inch chip missing at fore edge; 1/4 inch of front lower fore corner missing; 1/2 inch chip missing at spine tail/front cover inner corner joint; rear cover faintly foxed; tightly bound; damp stain ring at top fore corner of frontispiece; occasional light foxing interior, otherwise clean.
