Book appears to be unread and unused! The now deceased author (Howard McKnight Wilson died in 1988) has neatly signed this book on the title page under his name. It also appears in his handwriting that he wrote the name "George M. Pickral Christmas 1980" on the first title page. George M. Pickral was a Colonel and a 1943 Graduate of Virgin1a Military Academy- which still has a scholarship in his name. Outside cloth covers are very nice. Dust Jacket is NOT price clipped ($15.00). Dust Jacket is in Excellent condition and is now covered by a new clear mylar cover. A very nice signed collectible book! This Great Valley narrative is about a rugged, individualistic people who feared God and defended their are with a vengeance. They made a quick response to the first calls for troops from George Washington and Patrick Henry. The Western Virginians- then called backcountry or over-the-mountain men- joined the neighboring frontier forces in a method of hit-and-run warfare which the British could not equal. 273 pages
