The epic Latin poems of Virgil includes the first six books of his Aeneid, telling of the wanderings of Aeneas, who mythology maintains was the Trojan who became the ancestor of the Romans. This edition is intended for an English-speaking Latin student. The text of the poems is presented in Latin, with notes and explanatory information in English. Includes a 307-page Latin-to-English vocabulary at rear of volume. Liberally illustrated throughout with images of various ancient works of art. Also with a two-page faded color map showing the wanderings of Aeneas. --- In olive cloth-covered boards backed in brown leather, with 'Virgil' stamped in blind to cover, spine titling in gilt and with decorations stamped in blind to spine. --- With a tear to leather at front joint, re-attached leather chip at tail of spine, sticker remnants to covers, prior owner's signature to endpapers and notations throughout the book, but overall a well-preserved, tightly-bound copy.; 12mo - 7 to 7-1/2 in. tall; xlv, 409, 6, 307 pages .
