The Most Celebrated Works of Hellenic and Roman Literature, Embracing Poetry, Romance, History, Oratory, Science and Philosophy, Translated into English Prose and Verse by Distinguished Men of Letters. 15 Volumes. About 400 pages per volume, 7 volumes of Greek and 8 volumes of Latin classics. The Parnassus Edition, LIMITED TO 750 SETS, THIS ONE BEING #37, SIGNED by the editor. bound in full leather bindings. Thick tooled leather covers with early Greek goddess Athena type figure embossed on covers. With blind Greek style embossing, gilded spines, the top edges are gilded. Thick quality rag styled paper, gilded title and limitation page, full page plates protected in tissue, and hand finished, signed in pencil by the artists (only the ones that are hand finished). Red and black ink, each section starts with an enlarged block letter, thick quality rag style paper with wide margins, well laid out, with many pages uncut. Sewn in bookmarks. 9.50 inches tall. These take up aproximately 24 inches of shelf space. In VERY GOOD+ condition. Very fresh and supple bindings. The hinges are 100% fully attached. Very fresh bright and clean, pages uncut and therefore unread. Appears free of foxing. This is a gorgeous set. Some light general rubs wear, some spine fading, and an early inscription. This is a beautiful set on Ancient Rome and Greece. Bound in thick, full leather bindings, this is an impressive set.
