ERNEST HEMINGWAY Inscribed first edition, first printing, in original first state dust jacket. THE GREEN HILLS OF AFRICA Published in 1935; Scribners', New York. "A" on copyright page. Original price of "$2.75" still on front inner flap of dust jacket. CONDITION: Book is in very good plus condition: no problems other than a lightly sunned spine; gold and black print still vibrant. Green cloth covers show some lightening along cloth edges. Dust jacket front and back panels are bright, clean with only minor scratching and edge wear; jacket spine show sunning matching that of the book's spine cloth with printing still highly readable. Ed Hanes, to who this book is inscribed by Hemingway, was an acquaintance Hemingway had met in Key West, Florida. Book has no writing in it other than Ernest Hemingway's inscription to Ed Hanes. EDWARD SHENTON drew decorations and illustrations (the same artist who did the decorations and illustrations for F. Scott Fitzgerald's TENDER IS THE NIGHT). COLORADO ARTIFACTUAL
Synopsis
Green Hills of Africa is a 1935 work of nonfiction written by Ernest Hemingway. Hemingway's second work of nonfiction, Green Hills of Africa is basically a journal of a month on safari he and his wife, Pauline Marie Pfeiffer, took in East Africa during December 1933. Green Hills of Africa is divided into four parts: Pursuit and Conversation, Pursuit Remembered, Pursuit and Failure, and Pursuit as Happiness, each of which plays a different role in the story.
