New York: Charles Scribner, 1935. 1st. Cloth. Good/Good. An unusual copy of the 1935 1st edition, 2nd state (without the "A" on the copyright page). From the personal library of noted literary critic Maxwell Geismar (who, among other things, wrote the Introduction to Eldridge Cleaver's "Soul on Ice"). Geismar has heavily highlighted this copy --clearly his working copy-- in color pencil and has made several extensive margin notes. (A fascinating glimpse into the working methods of a major mid-century American critic). A presentable, "starter" copy to boot. The boards are relatively clean, the binding solid, the dustjacket --in spite of a few chips and some creasing-- is 95% present.
