About This Item
1895. N.p.]:1895.
Three page letter in Kate Greenaway's hand, written in ink to Lady Maria. (Measures 6
x 3 3/4 inches, folded).
Christmas 1895 39 Frognal Hampstead N.W
My Dear Lady Maria,
I wish you a very Happy Christmas
and New Year, and maybe I hope I
may see you before long-
I am going for a few days
to the Solcer-Sampsons on Boxing day- I hope it isn't going to be cold-It feels rather like it today.
There is no almanack this year. So I send you the little pictures for xmas cards.
Please forgive my sending your
with Mr. Ponsonbys-but they
rub so I thought they would do best that way.
And you are going to have
your little girls with you. That
will rejoice you very much I
know.
The shops are quite long I
think- everywhere so bright even up here- I always like last the
time before Christmas-Oh -if only it wont freeze and snow-As soon as you have time I hope you will come one afternoon-I should have written to you before-Only I
wanted to come out-to show to advantage-and there nothing is done. I don't know how it is I never get time for anything, when oncce I get to work-then Ive had a very bad cold-I know you will believe in its badness even if Mr. Ponsonby does not.
No time to finish your
letter-
With my love
Your affectionate Kate Greenaway.
