Synopsis: "Twelve-year old Richard Grenville is about to join the Royal Navy and is desperately worried about his fear of heights. He is terrified that he may disgrace his father and famous forebearers when he is ordered aloft to the main top. This vigrous story is full of details about life in Nelson's Navy and the man-of-war on which young Grenville serves. It describes the rigor of his naval training, his adventures with the other young volunteers and how, in standing up to the gun-room bully, Richard overcomes his secret fear".
