Chatto & Windus, 1941. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/Fair. Stated First Edition, no impression mentioned on DJ. 8vo. - over 7¾' - 9¾'. A Good copy in a Fair dustjacket. DJ has shelfwear, severe edgewear, rubbing, severely bumped corners, pen on front cover, chipping to top & bottom of spine, toning, creases, multiple tears ranging from 1/2' to 2 1/2', an (amateur) attempt to fix some of said tears that involves masking tape, and a piece missing from the upper right corner of the front cover. Book has edgewear, shelfwear to covers, bumped corners, toning to pages, smudges on covers & edges of text block, ink on the title page, ink on the illustration list, a crack that's starting on page 96, and a crack at page 160. Formerly a part of the esteemed poet Denise Levertov's personal library, the book also contains a gift inscription from her & her mother dated 1942. A Scarce wartime first in an even scarcer original dustjacket.
