Retired mathematics professor Vernor Vinge is also a Hugo-award winning author of numerous science fiction stories. Grimm's World was his first novel, adapted from a shorter story previously published in the sci-fi magazine Orbit. It tells the story of an ambitious woman, an impostor queen with above-average intelligence, who becomes involved in a three-way rebellion and a plot to turn their "backwater human society" into a slave farm.
