London; Hamish Hamilton, 1975., 1975. Hard Cover. INSCRIBED FIRST EDITION WITH ORIGINAL POEM BY THE AUTHOR. Large octavo, pp 213, [3]. Decorative title page plus illustration to 3 "Part" leaves. Quarter black cloth with gilt titles to spine and tan buckram boards with gilt motif to upper board. Unclipped pictorial dust-jacket. Minor creasing at spine tips and upper corner of lower board faintly bruised. A little light foxing, mainly to textblock edge. Lengthy gift inscription to ffep to Paul Roche with original poem, boldly signed by the Author in his characteristic and inimitable style and dated 6 June 1976. Jacket very lightly soiled to front flap, with minor rubbing to edge. A Very Good copy in like jacket. Recipient Donald Robert Paul Roche (1916-2007) was a British poet and Professor of English and a critically acclaimed translator of the classics. This collection of 28 stories about fools is based upon world wide myths and legends, and is divided into sections on the Guizer as Fool, as Man and as God.
