About This Item

Published privately by author. Undated. (10898) Large format ringbound paperback with pictorial front cover showing Earlham Hall. 100 pages. Numerous b.w. photographs. Maps. Fine in a fine papercover. No markings or inscriptions. This book tells of one couple John and Catherine Gurney of Earlham Hall in Norwich and the children they brought up to be caring and philanthropic. They were dedicated workers towards the abolition of the slave trade, reform in prisons, education for poorer people, saving lives at sea, and constantly giving help quietly where it was needed. Through the children's diaries and letters much is known of their lives and interests and their way of putting their Christian faith into practice. Here is their story.
