Small bends at top of pages and covers at edge. Michael McClure (1932 - 2020) was an American poet, novelist, playwright and songwriter. As a young writer, he found fame as one of the five poets (including Allen Ginsberg) who read at the famous San Francisco Six Gallery reading in 1955, which Jack Kerouac fictionalized in his book, "The Dharma Bums." He was a member of the Beat Generation and inspired the character of Pat McLear in Kerouac's "Big Sur." McClure also taught English for many years at the California College of Arts. in Oakland, California. "Hail Thee Who Play" was published in an edition of 700 copies in 1974.
