First edition, first printing. 360pp. Burgundy cloth boards with gilt titles on spine. 8vo. Cloth a little rubbed and rounded at spine ends. Previous owner's name on front free endpaper, partially obliterated. Internally neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original dust jacket, a little bumped along upper edge, rubbed at spine tips and very slightly rubbed on corners. A Cambridge Don recounts his life through a narrow lens, spinning yarns of donnish intrigue, ghosts in Cumberland, ritual marriage in the African Jungle and playing the stalking horse between King and statesmen in Persia, prospecting for real estate on the sea bed and, overall, recounting the creation of Land Economy as an academic discipline.
