Brown buckram with a brown ink panel on the spine with white ink lettering. Firmly bound with a slight forward lean and a brown top stain, clean internally. Burke's debut novel about the harsh lives of three Louisana men that "evokes the white-hot violence of convicts in a jailbreak, the passion and lyric sweetness of Avery's love affair in New Orleans, J.P.'s tawdry world of brothels and cheap politicians and one-night stands, the terror of Toussaint's last-ditch struggle against the bullets and bloodhounds of his pursuers.
