[6] pages advertisements, 596 pages (city and business directory), lxiv (registers of government, businesses, newspapers, societies, educational institutions, street directory, railroads, etc.), [6] pages of advertisements. Dark brown cloth hardcover with gilt stamped advertisements on the covers and the spine. Printed advertisements on the text edges. Two original (or contemporary) metal punch holes on the upper edge of the front and back covers for hanging/storage purposes and do not penetrate through the boards. Cloth is chipped bottom of the spine and is lightly edge worn head of the spine. The corners of the binding are turned. The interior hinges are very sturdy and the text and advertisements are very clean. An [8] page brochure, approx. 6.5" x 3.5", by "Holmes & Brother Insurance Co." is tipped in between pages 548-549. Printed advertisements on the front and rear paste downs. Many of the pages in the text have illustrated advertisements. A map was issued separately and is not present with this copy. A pink ticket tipped in before the title page reads: "The New Map of the City, containing all the new limits, changes in names of streets etc., according to Van Vechten's new and authorized Map of Chicago, not being quite ready to insert in the Directory, this Ticket will entitle the bearer to a copy if presented at our office, from August 15th to September 30th - Halpin & Bailey, 128 and 130 Clark Street."
