Edited with a life of Shakespeare, an account of the theatre in his time, and numerous aids to the study of the play, by Samuel Thruber, Jr. and A, B. de Mille. Bound in dark blue cloth, gilt outlined title panel on front, which is quite faded, can barely read the title on the spine. It is clean and unmarked, light wear to corners, edges rubbed. Tight and solid sewn binding. Pages lightly toned, quite clean, with underlined text on a few pages. 371pages. Notes and Glossary. 6.75 x 4.5 inches. 1951, Allyn and Bacon Publichers, Boston, MA
Synopsis
In this quintessential Shakespearean drama, Hamlets halting pursuit of revenge for his fathers death unfolds in a series of highly charged confrontations that climax in tragedy. The play begins with the ghost of Hamlet's father revealing that he was killed by Hamlet's uncle, Claudius, who has now married Hamlet's mother, Gertrude. Consumed by grief and madness, Hamlet feigns insanity as he plots his revenge. His inner turmoil and moral dilemmas are explored through soliloquies, while the play delves into themes of revenge, betrayal, and the nature of existence. Ultimately, the tragic events unfold, resulting in a climax of death and the ascension of Fortinbras as the new ruler of Denmark.
