About This Item
The practice of fortune-telling through the analysis of the palm is found worldwide. Palmistry experienced a revival in the early- to mid-19th century, and this book reflects the growing interest of the time. Along with its quite wonderful drawing printed on its front cover, it contains eight additional full-page illustrations of various aspects of the practice.
Glued to the back endpaper is a four-page pamphlet, "A Sketch of the Science of Palmistry" by Ed. Heron Allen with not only an additional illustration, but also various illustrated ads for such cures as "Wright's Indian Vegetable Pills".
All in all, the book is in good plus condition. The cloth binding is somewhat chipped and the top and bottom of the spines somewhat torn. The title page has a gift inscription and the name of a previous owner. Incidentally, it is glued to a stub, suggesting that the first edition title page was removed, and this second edition attached. I found only one tear in the book, that is on the bottom of the first page of the Table of Contents.
