Original blue cloth with spine and front board lettered and illustrated in black. Boards a little rubed to edges but still a very good copy. Artwork in black ink on white board. Image measures 7 x 5.5 inches. Initialed at bottom "G.B" and the title of the illustration is written in pencil. Double mounted in green and cream board. The image shows a little girl in her bed with an old man at the foot of the bed talking to her. Very good condition.:

Williams and Norgate. London., 1921. FIRST EDITION. Large 8vo.(10.2 x 7.8 inches). Illustrated with 96 plates. Publishers original green cloth binding with gilt lettering and ruling to spine. Binding a bit rubbed and bumped but overall sound and the gilt still bright. This copy has a full page original ink self portrait of Orpen on the front blank endpaper, showing the artist painting the famous American Wall Street lawyer and art collector, Paul Cravath. ---- The drawing is inscribed by Orpen at the bottom of the page "My very dear Mr Cravath-It was a big job to tackle on those hot summer afternoons you must admit. All good wishes in 1922.-------(?) William Orpen". The drawing shows Cravath, a large man who stood 6ft 4inches, sat posing while a much smaller Orpen, the heat rising from his head and his sleeves rolled up, paints the portrait. ------ The book has the bookplate of the prolific author and traveller Cecil Roberts who has written a note on the blank verso of the frontis piece about… Read More

Contains a foreword by Pepler plus a list of the items in the exhibition, three with hand written notes, including prices for the items. Printed on Caslon O. F white paper, sewn. Loosely inserted is a hand printed invite to the private preview on Sunday may 5th, 2.30-6pm. (one sheet, 10.9 x 3.8 inches, folded once). A scarce survivor, even more so with the preview invite. --Evan Gill. Bibliography of Eric Gill. No. 364 , the preview invite is not recorded in the bibliography.

Red and black decorative title page, portrait of William Morris, from a photo by Emery Walker, and 54 mono illustrations, including some drawings by Crane. Publishers blue cloth with decoration and lettering in white to both boards and spine. Small dent to the bottom of the rear board. Some minor foxing to the fore edges but this is a lovely clean and unread copy, with some page gatherings still unopened. In the rare original fawn paper dustwrapper which reproduces the designs and lettering on the book in red. Publishers adverts on the Inner flaps. Some darkening to the spine and chipping to the edges but overall a very good example and rare thus.

Original pink morocco-grain cloth, sides blocked in black with wide borders enclosing central oval, spine with leaf motifs at head and tail in black, lettered gilt, brown endpapers, pastedowns printed with advertisements. Bound by Edmonds & Remnants and with their binder's ticket. Spine darkened and a little worn at ends but still overall a very good, firm copy. The uncommon first Edition of this book-length critique of the pre-Raphaelites and Ruskin's critical writings.:
