Roberts of the Meteorological Office, fulfils the general purposes of its predecessor which was written by Mr A. F. Crossley over i o years ago as a successor to Dr R. C. Sutcliffe's Meteorology for Aviators. Though fundamental physical arguments remain unchanged, there is considerable rewriting on vertical motion, thunderstorms, ice accretion and high-altitude flight. Instrumentation trends and numerical forecasting are outlined, and text and diagrams have been up-dated throughout. Incorporating specialist knowledge on a variety of meteorological topics related to aviation, the book owes a great deal to the assistance of the author's colleagues in the Meteorological Office.
