The dark green covers are in good condition, their is general wear, bumping at the corners and top/bottom of spine, and scuffing and color loss on the back cover. The title and author are brightly stamped in gold on the front cover; the gold lettering on the spine is much more faded, but readable. The binding is solid, the front hinge is slightly loose. The interior of this book is in good condition. The only writing are a couple of small checkmarks and annotations on a few pages (detected on 4 pp., likely less than 10 pp. total). Some pages are mildly toned, there is a small stain on the title page and a few other pages; there is no foxing detected in the book. The book is illustrated throughout; it includes 24 full page plates; 15 of these are drawings by Louis Agassiz Fuertes that include 8 in color and one illustration of the passenger pigeon, now extinct. Other illustrations include many text-cuts by Tappan Andey and Ernest Thompson Seton. The front endpapers are a colored zone map of North America in very good condition. This is a nice copy of an early field guide for birds initially published in 1895.
