New York: Van Nostrand Reinhold Co., 1978. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good, Price Clipped. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. pp: 131. FIRST ENGLISH LANGUAGE EDITION. Originally published in French. Translated by J.A. Underwood, Pictorial dust jacket, cream coloured boards lettered in black. One hundred color plates highlighted with gold and silver containing 200 designs from all the styles of ancient and Asiatic art, and art of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Each of the full page, full colour illustrations include a description in French, English, and German. The art represented comes from ancient Egyptian, Assyrian, Greek, Etruscan, Greco-Roman, Chinese and Japanese, Indian, Persian, and Arab sources. There are also examples from Byzantium, the Middle Ages, and the Renaissance. This is a near fine copy in a very good dust jacket that has light chipping at the spine ends, and light edge wear. The name of a previous owner is on the free endpaper. Laid in are three colour post cards of the interior of Windsor Castle.
