New York: John Wiley & Sons, 1905. First Edition . Full Leather. Good. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. First edition, third thousand, published 1905 in New York. An attractive volume bound in brown suede leather over flexible boards, with gilt lettering to upper and spine. Light wear and rubbing, mainly to spine tips and corners. Spotting to upper board which is highlighted in the photo but less noticeable in real life. The spine leather has faded but the gilt is still bright. All edges gilt: lightly dust-soiled and rubbed but also still bright. Brown endpapers. Joints firm. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. Gutter cracked between copyright page and preface but all pages attached and text block firm. A couple of pencil annotations to contents page. Very occasional minor spotting but contents o/w clean and unmarked except for a few random stamps in blue ink, marking the book as the property of C. W. U. Chivers, Architect of Winnipeg. One 3 cm edge tear. The author describes his book as "A valuable addition to any mechanical or technical library, and taken altogether it is as its title represents: a handbook for anyone engaged in any branch of building construction, and most especially superintendents of construction, and inspectors." Contents include: Personality and Duties of a Superintendent; Stone Laying, Setting, and Cutting, Marble and Slate Work, Brickwork and Bricklaying, Paving, etc.; Lime, Sand, Cement, Mortar, and Concrete; Architectural Terra-Cotta; Fire-Proof Construction; Lathing and Plastering; Tin and Sheet Metal Work; Geometrical Mensuration; Hydraulics and Data on Water.
