1905. Near Fine. 1 handwritten letter, dated 3 June 1905, Washington, D.C. Irene Rucker Sheridan, the widow of General Philip Sheridan, responds to Jessie M. Weith, who had requested an autograph letter of her late husband. She regrets that she cannot comply because she had given away nearly everything from him. General Philip Sheridan (1831-1888) was a Union general in the American Civil War. Irene Rucker Sheridan (1856-1936) was the daughter of Brigadier General Daniel H. Rucker, Quartermaster General of the US Army. They married in 1875; he died in 1888. In the 2-volume memoir that he sent to the publisher shortly before his death, he did not mention his wife or four children. In Near Fine Condition: back (blank) slightly soiled; otherwise, clean and solid.
