About This Item

Gore's Landing, 1868. No Binding. Fair. About the letter: Handwritten letter with envelope addressed to Joseph Wilson of Perrytown, Ontario. Letter was written April 7, 1868. The main subject of the letter is regarding Lampman Sr's desire to leave his current position in Gore's Landing and officiate as a Reverend elsewhere, but because of the addition of the poet's youngest sister, Caroline, he feels it unwise to move. As far as we can tell, there is no mention of the poet in the letter, however, he does mention the hope that no one falls ill. Archibald Lampman contracted rheumatic fever in November of that year, age 7, which may or may not have led to his premature death in 1899. Letter has been separated and is now in two sections. There is an additional tear to one section. Letter is in fair shape. Very rare letter.
