About This Item

2D: D. Appleton & Company. Very Good- with no dust jacket. 1892. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. This specific hardback book is in good condition with tan with dark brown moss design print on cloth over hard board cover that has sharp edges/corners with some minimal bumping, soiling or scuffing. The book has a tight intact, sewn-in binding. The pages are slightly yellowed with age but are otherwise clean and uncreased and unmarked. The title page is shorter at the top by about 3/4 inch for no apparent reason. There appears to be a little moisture damage to the last blank end page and the paper covering the interior of the rear cover, but has in no way damaged the cover itself or the interior of the book and is only noticeable due to the wrinkling of the lower corner of those areas specifically. That is the only flaw that downgrades the rating of this book from very good to good. This is a remarkable book and is in good condition. We package all books in custom cardboard book boxes and ship daily with tracking numbers. ; This is an original first edition book and is extremely rare. The author was German and his this work was translated by Winchester Ayer and Helen Folger. He was noted for numerous novels, literary crtiques and other writings up to his death in the early 1900's. Perhaps his most famous novel is Lace. A synopsis of this book can be found online in the Literary News Bulletin of 1893. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 300 pages .
