The Hanging Woman ~ Signed by Author

Dodd Mead & Company, 1931. 1st US Edition. Hardcover. VG+/VG-. 1st US Edition 13.2 x 19.2 cm Yellow cloth with green stamped vignette to the front and black titles to the front and spine. 'Red Badge Detective' endpapers, [viii] 307[1]pp with original unclipped jacket priced at $2.00. The author has signed the book on the blank following the front free endpaper, "With best wishes from the author/ John Rhode/June '32". The boards are bright with some dust staining and toning to the spine. There is a little pushing to the spine tips, three of the four corners are creased and there is a 2cm split in the cloth at the top of the lower joint. Internally there is some toning to a section of the endpapers where the dust jacket does not reach and a little spotting, mainly to the uncut edges but occasionally extending onto the text pages. The author's signature is very clear. The dust jacket which is now protected in a removable, clear cover (not shown) has small losses at the spine tips and corners. There are 3 chips at the head of the spine, the largest measuring 1.5 x 1cm and 3 smaller at the foot. The front joint has a Japanese paper repair along its length and a few short closed tears of less than 1cm along the top and bottom edges. A hard to find 1st US Dr Priestley Detective Story made extremely scarce by the author's signed and dated inscription.
