A Viennese caprice. William Heinemann Ltd, 1936. Green diagonal fine bead-grain cloth blocked and lettered gilt on spine; fore-edges rough trimmed; grey-green end-papers. Gilt dulled on spine; end-papers embrowned at edges; last four leaves opened a little roughly by some evidently excited reader; otherwise a very nice copy. Hubin, p.382, listing this title as of undetermined status. An unusual and rather beautiful novel, beginning with three apparent murders, which are in fact only murders by intent. The would-be perpetrator is a famous psychiatriatric professor who, sadly, fails to understand himself and ends up in an asylum. The American edition was published in the same year. All books listed by Robert Temple are first editions unless otherwise stated.
