New York: Harper & Brothers, 1870. Leather. Fair. 848p. Ex-library. An oversize hardcover book with black leather spine and corners, and green marbled boards. POOR CONDITION. Large center segment of spine is crackigng off. Pieces of clear tape are holding the boards on, as they are virtually detached. Edges and surfaces of cover are heavily scuffed. Old sticker on spine. A few old library markings inside, as well as occasional newsprint smudges. Small dampstain on edge of pages 1-21 and faint, spotty stains on pages 310-320, 385-386, 511-512, and 559-560. Light stain in gutter of pages 815-824. Patchy tanning on pages 422-423. Scrawled signature at top of each issue's front page. All pages are brittle with age and easily chip and tear when not handled gently. Closed tears in pages 89, 197-224, and 383; other minor wear to pages edges here and there. OFFERED AS-IS. Volume 3 of the ladies' fashion magazine HARPER'S BAZAR (later spelled HARPER'S BAZAAR), containing all weekly issues from January 1 through December 31, 1870, including supplement no. 11 on point lace embroidery and the supplement of cut paper patterns (which has small closed tears on the edges). Filled with lots of excellent black and white engravings of women's fashions, hairstyles, and more. Features a brief illustrated article about sisters Victoria and Tennessee Claflin, the first female stockbrokers on Wall Street; a collage of portraits of the crown princesses of Europe; an article about "Mad King Ludwig" of Bavaria, who built the famed Neuschwanstein Castle; a garden party at Windsor Castle; an illustrated article about Charles Dickens and his residences; a short article on the Empress Eugenie with a portrait; and view of the Rialto Bridge in Venice.
