We fit archival quality clear acrylic covers for additional protection whenever possible. ; Engravings; 4to 11" - 13" tall; viii, 864 pages; Black morocco over cloth boards, text block with marbled edges. Unusually nice appearing. Only light aging. TWAIN, Mark, Samuel L. Clemens "Forty-Three Days In An Open Boat" , Twain's First National Appearance. Forty-Three Days In An Open Boat was Twain's first appearance in a national magazine, which he later recounted in his story, "My Debut As A Literary Person" . Tenth item down from the top of Table of Contents, So little known was he at the time that Harper's half-year index identified him as "Mark Swain," much to his chagrin. A landmark appearance and rarely available piece of Americana. His 1st work is found on pp 104-13, complete and Fine. .
