London: Printed for R. Hunter...and Baldwin, Cradock, and Joy, 1817 First edition. Contemporary calf, gilt spines with burgundy and black morocco labels. . Three volumes, twelvemo. Issued without half-titles. Minor cover staining, small chip at foot of spine of Volume II. Tear expertly repaired on pp. 309-10, affecting text but with no loss. Binding extremities rubbed, occasional light foxing. A good set. "The first of these tales, Harrington, was occasioned by an extremely well written letter, which Miss Edgeworth received from America, from a Jewess, complaining of the illiberality, with which the Jewish nation had been treated in some of Miss Edgeworth's works" (preface). In Harrington, the Christian hero is in love with a Jewish woman.

Though we gave up an open shop after more than thirty years, we welcome serious customers and dealers. We are normally open from 10 to 6 Monday through Saturday. Since some of our less expensive books are located in a temperature-controlled storage area offsite, you may want to call ahead of time to insure that the book you want to see will be available.
