About This Item
Boston: Houghton, Osgood and Company, 1878. Cloth. Near Fine. A tight, very well-preserved copy of the 1878 2nd printing of this exhaustive history of Harvard, complete in 2 volumes. Both volumes solid and Near Fine in their light-purple, bevelled cloth. Bright, unflecked gilt-insignia (Harvard's crest) and lettering along the front panels and spines. Small former owner inscription at the first blank endpaper of Vol. I, rear inner hinge of same volume tender (but still perfectly sturdy). Dozens of crisp black-and-white plates (with their accompanying tissue-guards) of the campus and a number of the key figures of 19th century Harvard. Thick folios, all edges gilt. Imposing and very impressive.
