Ankara: Yeni Matbaa, 1957. Good+. First English Language Edition. Octavo (24cm.); publisher's green printed card wrappers; [4],xv,[3],233pp.; two folding plates, text illus. throughout, including photographs. Wrapper extremities extremely toned and rather foxed, small chip at top spine edge of upper cover, previous owner has written the title at bottom edge of textblock as well as blue pencil and ink marginalia throughout, mostly to early leaves, else Good or better overall.

Description of the "rural uplift" of the Turkish village of Hasanoglan, due in part to the establishing, in 1943, of the Institute of Hasanoglan, a teacher's training college at which the author was an instructor of sociology. The study was originally written in 1944, before the Institute was closed in the wake of attacks made by the conservative Republican People's Party as well as the liberal Democratic Party.
