About This Item
In around 750AD Polynesians, probably from the Marquesas islands, arrived in Hawaii from the far South Seas and the islands were big enough to cater for new arrivals over the next few hundred years until about 1,000 AD when chiefs from Tahiti and other islands in the Society group arrived and brought the original settlers under their control. New arrivals from these islands continued to about 1,275 AD then stopped and the islands were left in isolation until January 1778 when the ships of Captain James Cook were sighted. The coming of the white man changed their lives for ever. 353 pages with 16 pages of black and white photographs.
