Kauai, HI: Kauai Museum Publication, 1973. Reprint of 1976 . Soft Cover/Stapled. Very Good/None as Issued. Text/Near New with faint moisture staining to upper leading edges. Stapled softcover/VG; strong & sound w/light surface wear & moisture (water splash?) to upper back cover. Musuem reprint of a 1933 oral delivery of 1933. Vintage, local history of the origins and developement of of quilting in Hawaii and in Kauai in particular with b/w photos. 31 pgs. An imported craft by missionaries which by the 1930's, in Haiwaii, it was already customary to give each child, on going to school or entering marriage, a quilt --- a warm rite of passage so to speak. At that period though, animal motifs were virtually absent (excepting the American eagle and buffalo) as they were considered unlucky. A record of art skills & motifs, and hence a history of social values as expressed in arts & crafts as well. Strong copy despite flaws.
