Indianapolis: Bobbs Merrill, 1945. First. Hard Cover. Yes. First edition. WARM, LENGTHY, PERSONAL INSCRIPTION BY WILL H. HAYS AND DATED DECEMBER 25, 1945 ON THE FRONT FREE ENDPAPER. Inscription is to Dr. Arthur Debra, who was acting director of the MPPDa's Public Information Department and is mentioned on p. 47. An examination of "what the motion-picture industry, under...the Hays office, has learned about governing itself. " The author argues that the establishment of the Hays Office actually represented a liberalization of movie censorship rules, bringing under one federal-level umbrella, laws and regualtions that varied greatly from stste to state. Near fine in very good, edgeworn dust jacket.
