Philadelphia: Stanley Institute, 1910. Hardcover. See Description. 1910 edition (copyright 1909). 4to. (26 cm tall). pp. [2], 8, 33-1382, xxxiv, [2]. Complete. With a color frontispiece depicting a 'sectional view of a modern sanitary suburban home" and 34 plates (17 colored and 17 black and white). Among the colored plates are 3 "lift-the-flap" charts. Numerous black and white illustrations are also included with the text. In addition, pp. 825-838 are printed on gloss paper and contain black and white photos and illustrations depicting muscular development and exercise; pp. 881-912 offer simple color illustrations (on rectos) of medicinal plants, followed by a 10 unnumbered glossy page section (titled "Herbs, Roots and Plants Valuable in Medicine") with 9 black and white illustrations; p. 1012 is followed by 8 unnumbered glossy pages with black and white human body outline diagrams for quick diagnosis. Bound in dark brown cloth with a three-quarter Morocco pattern. Title is gilt on the spine. All book-block edges are marbled. Binding shows minor rubbing to extremities. One spot of faint discoloration is present on the front cover. The bottom section of the front free marbled end paper contains creasing and wear. A 1 cm tear is present on the fore-edge of the front free end paper and on the first blank fly leaf. Joseph Gibbons Richardson (1836-1886) was a lecturer on pathological anatomy and a professor of hygiene at the University of Pennsylvania. This is a heavy book (9.5 lbs. / 4.3 kg) and will require additional postage.
