The Heart of Midlothian is often regarded as Scott's finest novel. Much of the dialogue is in Lowland Scots. .

This is an unusual set, in the original purple / red boards with the publisher's original white printed paper labels to the spine. It's not common to see a complete set in the original format like this, since most copies were rebound with the original bindings discarded. There is some rubbing and marking to the boards, and the spines are occasionally sunned, but the joints are strong and the hinges aren't cracked. The pages are extremely bright white, and clean throughout. Each vol is 18cm high, 13cm across the boards. The set stretches 155cm along the shelf.
