About This Item
1728 La Henriade by Voltaire French Lit Henry IV Dedication to Queen Caroline
"Let us read and let us dance; these two amusements will never do any harm to the world."
― Voltaire
'Henriade' is one of Voltaire's most famous and important poems. This work concerns and celebrates the life of Henry IV of France. While not tremendously popular during Voltaire's lifetime, 'Henriade' has continued to be one of the most popular 18th-century poems on the life of French royalty.
This 1728 edition was published in Paris and is one of the earliest printings of the work. In 1723, prior to the release of "Henriade", Voltaire wrote "La Ligue, ou Henry le Grand", a poem that would develop into 'Henriade'.
Edition published in French with English dedication to Queen Caroline!
