Book is tight, square, and unmarked but for an agency copy bookplate on the front pastedown dated 1919. Book Condition: Good; sunfading to spine; sunfading/shadowing to boards; light wear-through to head, tail, and tips. No DJ. Purple cloth boards and spine with gilt lettering on the spine. Clean internals. Deckled edges. Internal hinges are sound and not split. 244 pp 8vo. Henry Baldwin Hyde was an American businessman. He is notable for having founded The Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States in 1859. At the time of his death (1899), The Equitable was the largest life insurance company in the world. This book is not a true biography but a gathering together of reminiscences which might otherwise be lost. An appendix includes papers of his early associates and others who were competent judges of his character and achievements. A clean very presentable copy.
