He is notable for having founded The Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States in 1859. At the time of his death (1899), The Equitable was the largest life insurance company in the world. This book is not a true biography but a gathering together of reminiscences which might otherwise be lost. An appendix includes papers of his early associates and others who were competent judges of his character and achievements. A clean very presentable copy.
