Louisville: The Filson Club Book. Good. Soft cover. pp257-266. Removed from THE FILSON CLUB HISTORY QUARTERLY, Vol 23, No. 4, October, 1949. G. In report covers. Watterson, 1840-1921, was the editor of the Louisville Courier Journal and a major figure in the Democratic party. During the Civil War, he enlisted in the Confederate army and served on the staffs of Gens. Leonidas Polk, Joseph Johnston, John Hood, and Nathan Bedford Forrest. He also edited THE REBEL, the most widely read newspaper of the Confederate army. His 50 year association with the Louisville newspaper began in 1868. He also served several months in the US Congress, filling out the term of a deceased representative..
